Pocket PC & a high quality screen : Where do i start??

Guys,
I don't know where to start ..before i wanted a converged device that
could replace my phone, ipod and also be a pda & pocket pc ... so i
purchased the I-Mate JAM. As much I like it's small size... I thought
the screen was awful! My mobile phone Sharp GX30i has a much better
display than that. So naturally I had to send it back to where i purchased
it for a full refund.

I think I better stick to keeping my devices separate as this ensures the
highest quality.

I have been VERY impressed with my Sony PSP's TFT widescreen.

My main hobbies are Photography & Movies.
So I would need a large but mobile display system so I can
view my high quality photo's taken with a digital camera & video recorder.
So a screen size about the size of the Dell Axim would be ideal.

The Jam has a 65K colour TFT Transrelfective screen, so basically
I want something that is MUCH better than that. It was far too hazy?
a guess sometimes dark too....

It is not important that this "dream" device has mobile phone capability.

Can someone give me advice about display types im getting confused with
all this TFT \ VGA \ Transreflective terminology.

You will want to look for devices that have a VGA screen (as opposed to the QVGA display on your current device). This will sharpen the display considerably even though you will still be dealing with TFT technology. A VGA display has 4x as many pixels per area as a QVGA display which gives better color and crisper output to the device's screen. Asus, Dell, and HP all have PPCs with VGA displays and will be worth your investigation to identify a model that fits combination of performance needs and budget.

Something to keep in mind is that WM2005 will be appearing on devices through the next 2-3 months, so you may want to delay buying until that happens to see what may be released at that time.

Thanks for the tip, I'll definetly wait a while before I order a device in haste.
As I see it VGA > QVGA > Jam Display
If the my mobile has a QVGA screen and that is better than the display
on the Jam, what display did it have, something other than VGA?

Is there any display better than VGA for PPC's?

for a very comprehensive review of PDA screens. Currently all PPC's can only show 65k colours, but VGA can dither better, due to the higher density.

Unfortunately, there're no better QVGA screens than that of the Jam, color saturation-wise.

As for VGA PDA's, they are still much worse than that of the PSP, color saturation-wise. The iPAQ hx4700 and the Fujitsu-Siemens Pocket Loox 720 are the closest to it, but they are still 'pale', compared to the PSP.

There is only one PDA right now that IMHO can match the PSP, and that's the OLED-equipped Sony Clié VZ90. So, if you can put up with a Palm device that has been hacked into English (and is still partially Japanese), go for the VZ90.

I did have a chance to see the MDA Compact which is just like the Jam
and I found it too, to be quite gloomy and dark.
There is no comparison with that an the colours on my Sharp GX3
or my friend's Samsung D500 & Sony Ericsson 910i \ S700i etc
