Next WM OS?
Has there been any news on a new OS after WM5.0? I was wondering, because I am shopping for a new PDA. I thought it would be best to get the X50v because it is not much different than the X51v...but if a new OS comes out next year, it is probably most likely that the X50v wouldn't get the upgrade.

I wouldn't expect another completely new OS for at least 2 years. And I wouldn't even expect the X51 to get the upgrade for that since it might not even still be on the market (might be replaced with the next generation model by then). If you want to buy now, buy for the features you get now, not so much for upgradability.

Absolutely. Do NOT buy a pocket PC with the gleam of upgrading in your eye. It's like getting married assuming you can change the parts you don't like now.

lol not a bad point. Considering all the bad news of all PDAs that were "supposed to" get an upgrade...

Well if it were a few months ago, right before the new OS had come out, I would have said to keep upgradability in mind when buying. But when a new OS won't even be on the horizon for another year and a half to two years, it just doesn't make sense for that to be on your list of concerns.

Oh I see. Plus, considering that the next processors might be 1GHz which would bring in new models. Isn't the next processor supposed to be 1GHz?

IIANM, the chips have been available for some time now - it's just taking some time to build devices around them. TBH, I'm more anticipating the faster ROM chips that are due to be in new devices next year. Only then will we see WM5.0 reach its potential in terms of matching WM2003SE for speed.
