Default I need some Help when it comes to a pocket PC buying.

I know nothing about them, even though I research I can't really find what I need to know. So I would like your opinion.

I am thinking about buying the Dell Axim X5 to get started in the pocket PC's, butt the thing is, I don't even know if I really need a pocket PC, so I am going to ask you a few question.

1: I have seen the Dell Axim said to be a PDA many times and Pocket PC many times, which is it?

2: This is a sad and nasty question that I just want a simple question for if you know, how do you charge the Axim X5, I hear stuff about cradles no cradles, and I am confused.

3: What do you personally use your PDA/Pocket PC for?

4: And when you can pay for a wireless e-mail service, can you actually e-mail from anywhere anytime? Or do you hafta be in a area with 802.11b, like I said, I don't know about this stuff at all.

5: How does the Axim 5 do with games?

Thank You!

1. A Pocket PC is a PDA, but a PDA isn't necessarily a PPC. PDA means personal digital assistant, which can be PPCs, Palm devices, the Linux Zaurus etc. SO it is in fact both. PDA is a broader definition, and PPC is the specific definition.

2. It comes with an AC adapter that either plugs into the axim directly, or if you have a cradle, it plugs into that and charges the Axim when it is docked.

3. I use mine for calendar/contacts/tasks/notes (Personal Information Management, or PIM), mp3s, movies, games, my checkbook, and so much more.

4. You can get wireless connection through certain cell phones, or in areas that offer WiFi connectivity-ie borders does, and so does starbucks.

5. The axim is ok with games, altho after experiencing the Mushy joy pad, it leaves a lot to be desired. However, it is a capable device and you can definitely pass a few minutes playing games on it.

How much are you willing to spend? The ipaq 2215 is only $75 more than the Axim Advanced, and it offers more too (faster bus, bt, smaller size)

Importluva Gave a great description for all the questions, so I only need to answer 1, number 3. I use mine(Ex. axim owner, Ipaq to be. ) for almost anything you can think of. From big things like reports and documents, to solitare and tasks. If I'm at the library, I will quickly open an Excel file for the book numbers, so I can look up alot at a time. I use Money to keep track of my, guess what? Money!* I like the Tasks bit alot. I chck my email with it, and with a wireless internet card I can go online at my school. I really like all the things it can do. You will even find out it can do things we haven't listed, and it will kind of adapt to you, and you will find lots more stuff to do. Hope this helps,
Justin.

Thanks guys

and with a wireless internet card I can go online at my school

Wow, that sounds nice, I wouldn't mind going to school if I had that ability at my fingertips.
