Default ATT to Cingular migration

I have tow 5600's. One for me and one for my wife. These phones were origionally purchased from ATT. My wife broke hers (the on/off button doesn't work). Now Cingular says they will migrate us to their service but they cant unlock my working 5600 to work with Cingular ---

I tried the unlock from SPV-Developers - said it worked, but when I tried with a T-Mobile - I get no service.....

So do I really have to now buy two 2125's??? or is there some way to get my ATT-5600 to work with a Cingular SIM??

Thanks

PS - we also will be adding two additional lines at this time for our kids.

Les

I've never used the free unlock tools so I can't comment on how good or bad they work. I have used the one from http://www.imei-check.co.uk/ It may cost you a little $$ but it works and there are no headaches.

I have a 5600 from AT&T that I have been using on my carrier (Fido) since I got the phone back in November of 2004.

Well after an hour or two at the Cingular store, mostly on the phone to various "customer service" rep's I got a deal that I think was fair. I got two 2125's at $209 ea + $100 Credit to my account - so $220 for two phones, thats only $20 more than I was ready to shell out for the one replacement. The 2125's have to be mailed to me, so I'm without a phone for a few days (my wife got mine with her sim card) till they get here.

I also got a SLVR and a pink RAZR for the kids.

I was told the reason the cingular SIM didn't work was because it was a 64k chip -vs- a 32K chip for the ATT.

So-- bottom line I spent ~ $800 with $250 rebates/credits, and I can sell my 5600 on EBAY - (or maybe try the forum here first).

Thanks for the link

Les

That sounds like a pretty good deal to me. Did they lock you in to a contract? Not that it matters or anything. Doesn't sound like you'll be switching carriers anytime soon anyway.

Hrm, I seem to recall something about this. You must have had a really old AT&T SIM.

Two years, which I'm sure will seem like a long time when the 2125 is 18months old. I got my 5600's when they first came out, so they are fairly old.

I've used this service to unlock my SMT5600 and it worked also.
It was brainless and simple.
I can plug in ANY SIM and it works.
AT&T, Cingular, or T-Mobile.

Pete...
