Default Best wav editor/splitter?

I've got a few wav files that I pulled off of cassette tapes (one file per tape, 400-500MB per file) and I'm wondering what the best/easiest/cheapest way to split the files into individual tracks with no silence before/after the tracks is.

I've tried Audacity but I'm wondering if there's an easier or better app to do the job.

I think the best and free audi editor is Audacity, it is open source project on sourceforge, it have many features and capabilities. the latest version is 1.3.2 (Beta).

good luck.

I've found an even easier method: Find the used CD on Amazon (often for less than $10), buy it, and rip it. I did that six days ago.
