Hey, my first computer was a TI-99 4a - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas_Instruments_TI-99/4A

Used DOS through high school.

Didn't get Windows until college.

Pah! When I was little we didn't even have calculators.
When I went to University the only computer was a building, and we had to submit punch cards typed in PL1 (Programming Language 1).
My first computer was an Amstrad CPC464 that ran C/PM.
My next PC was custom made and used DR DOS 3, and GEM was better than the first version of Windows. It was a long time before Windows 3.1 made it usable.
Now I've got an XP PC, a Vista laptop and a PDA (HP hx4700) running Windows Mobile 2003SE. I still cannot get a decent screen size on a newer PDA, because I want GPS with it, and ideally a phone.
In actual cash amounts, I could get three or four top spec PCs for the cost of my first DOS PC. In real terms allowing for inflation, many more!

HTC HD2.Finally ditched HP hx4700 and miss its excellent screen, which was the proper shape, and its accuracy with a stylus.Sad Psion never developed its 5 series.Fed up that TomTom don't support HD2.

I really like that their is now an easy to use piece of software that can help children understand those concepts better and have fun while doing so. Heck when I was little all I had was Windows 3.1, DOS and batch scripts. Those were the days
I don't know how old she is but check out Small Basic by Microsoft. It's a beautiful IDE and has a great 100 page pdf tutorial. It's a simple teaching language, though it's all text.... OOOO and it has the logo turtle, which it's a great place to start learning coding.
