"According to Pali Research, Time Warner will declare its support for Blu-Ray in early 2008, deciding the end of the HD wars. This prediction comes on top of Michael Bay’s statement that Microsoft is funding HD DVD’s side to ensure that both formats lose. While any prediction is just that (a hopeful guess and nothing more), until a decision is actually made (and Michael Bay probably doesn’t really know what he thinks he does), let’s take a look at the thought process Time Warner is going through that is likely behind all of this."
First off, Michael Bay is an idiot. He may make good movies, but he's talking out his ass when it comes to the whole Blu-Ray vs. HD DVD format war. Microsoft has a vested interest in HD DVD, yes, for a variety of reasons. And yes, downloadable movies are the future, that's inevitable. Of course if Bay had been paying attention he would have seen Bill Gates' comments two years ago stating that Microsoft only sees HD discs as a stop-gap measure on the road to digital downloads. Now, back to the matter at hand: I will be shocked if Time Warner goes Blu-Ray only. They are outselling other studios due to the fact they are offering BOTH formats. They have a much larger potential customer base as a result. Though Blu-Ray may be in the lead right now, I think the coming year is going to see HD DVD at least pull even if not pull ahead, as the next wave of HDTV and HD disc player buyers are going to be buying on price, not features or hype. That's where HD DVD's strength lies. Bring on 2008!
