Default Review Of Casio Exilim EX-Z40

http://www.steves-digicams.com/2004_reviews/ex-z40.html

"The EX-Z40 ZOOM is the latest addition to Casio's super-slim EXILIM Series and shares the same 4 Megapixel CCD imager and high-performance 3X Pentax zoom lens found on the EXILIM EX-Z4. The EX-Z40 introduces some new features, such as the ability to capture movies clips with sound that are limited only by the memory card's capacity, a new light-weight aluminum body, and a Pan-Focus mode."

I bought an Exilim-Z4 for my sister (which I played with for a while of course ) and she is extremely happy with it, and the Z40 appears to be the next iteration of the Z4. The EX-Z40 has a battery life of 2.5 times that of the EX-Z4 and most importantly, all versions appear to be able to capture movies (no need to watch out for American versions). The Casio EX-Z40 has a suggested retail of about $399 and will be available late April of 2004.

I read that Exilims and Pentax Optios are the same thing, one's just rebranded. Is there any truth to this?

They're similar, with Pentax providing the lens, and Casio the electronics. But there're some differences in design, components, and menus.

Casio has come a long way in the digital camera market. I remember reading an article discussing how Casio wants to become less of the "geeky company." Instead, they want to focus on the cool factor. Their cameras definitely have the cool factor these days... 8O
