Default LookWow - Web-Based Photo Enhancement

"The LookWow service is a feature-rich offering that includes basic editing functions, such as Crop Photo, Resize, Remove Red-Eye and Sharpen Photo. It employs a number of one-click enhancements, such as One-Step Enhance, Even Skin Tone, Elegant Look, and Suntan Effect, along with a series of special effects including Candlelight, Black & White and Bronze Effect. LookWow has a myriad of additional features that include Brighten Smile, Enhance Lips, Enhance Color, Add Border and Caption to your photo. Users simply upload their photo to the LookWow web site, and they can instantly touch-up and revitalize their online photos, while creating a better image – with just a single-click. The service will shortly offer users the capability to share their photos through an easy-to-use online form. No registration, installation or membership is required to use LookWow. Being a web-based service, features are never out-of-date. Users simply go to the LookWow web site and they will always have the latest updates. LookWow works with any browser and is operating system independent. LookWow is a Java™ and PHP-based web application created using patent-pending image filtering and processing technology."

In truth all this service does is download a Java applet to your computer where you can perform simple tasks on your photographs. There really isn't anything impressive here, but it does seem to have most of the tools that you'd want in a simple photo editor (including a red-eye reduction tool). There are tons of free software out there that do this and most of them do it better. Of course being Java, LookWow will run on any computer (not just windows).

I'm not bookmarking this site just yet, but we might only be a year away from a Photoshop Elements type program being available on the web.
