Default Guide To FFDshow For DVD Post-Processing

http://htpcnews.com/main.php?id=ffdshowdvd_1

"As a beginner to the HTPC (Home Theater PC) world you may hear a lot of users talking about post processing, FFDshow and DVD being brought to near HDTV quality. Unfortunately there hasn't been a beginners guide on how to do this, until now. What I hope to do, as in most of my guides, is to give you the basic knowledge on how to achieve this enhancement. I don't like to give too much technical information as most beginners just tend to feel overwhelmed. Besides... the technical side is all that's around, and that's why you're here, isn't it?

The next question you may ask is "Why do I want to do this?". Utilizing your HTPC as a Progressive scan DVD player is great, but imagine taking it a step further and actually enhancing the image quality further to bring out some of the finer details that are lost. Scaling the DVD to higher resolutions brings out even more and the end result is absolutely amazing, it's something that you really have to see to believe. Many home theater enthusiasts even spend hundreds to thousands of dollars on equipment to scale video sources to higher resolutions. And yet you can do all of this on your HTPC system, at a fraction of the cost."

I was very impressed when looking at the before and after images from the post processing (pictured above is the post processed image of Yoda). This guide really gives a full guide on setting this up from the beginning. Not only does this article talk about the exact setup you will need to do this, but it also covers limitations. I highly recommend reading this.

Excellent article! Thanks for the link.

I'm moving into a new apartment soon and will be joinging the HTPC crowd, so that site is a godsend.
