Default Further Anti-Piracy Moves?

http://www.technologyreview.com/articles/wo_garfinkel030304.asp?p=1

"The latest anti-piracy move will prevent you from making high-quality copies of broadcast TV programs. And the new "broadcast flag" technology enables all manner of other restrictions."

The Motion Picture Association of America appears to be set to control what we can do with our TVs through these electronic flags installed in TV sets. This is going to have interesting implications. I mean, George Orwell's 1984 anyone?

In the end analog will save the day. Copy protected cd's and other media can always be copied by going to analog then back to digital, as long as you have good equipment you shouldn't notice much if any loss of quility.

THe problem is no one has HDTV quality analog recorders and unless you are in the recording industry, I doubt you will. I can't see consumer level HDTV analog equipment being made.

That's true, the idea I guess is to limit the number of people who can get this stuff out.

should shoppers buy the latest/greates HDTV now so that they wont have to buy a "controlled" version later?
