Default eHomeUpgrade: 365 Days Later, Xbox 360 Unveils First Wave of TV Shows and Movies on Xbox Live

http://www.ehomeupgrade.com/entry/3278/365_days_later

"With a robust library of 160 high-definition games expected by holiday, Xbox 360™, the video game and entertainment system from Microsoft Corp., will get even better today. On its one-year anniversary, Xbox 360 will digitally deliver an initial lineup of TV shows and movies to gamers in the U.S. via Xbox Live®, the online games and entertainment network from Microsoft. As announced earlier this month, Xbox Live Marketplace will now provide gamers with easy access to hundreds of full-length TV shows for download to own and movies for download to rent from CBS, MTV Networks, Paramount Pictures, Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. (TBS, Inc.), Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and Warner Bros."

Microsoft’s push into the living room has gained additional momentum thanks to an enhancement of the Xbox 360 console and new downloadable content. Using Xbox Live and Microsoft’s Points system you can choose to own television shows or rent movies from a range of networks and studios. Pricing is also variable based on either high or standard definition. I find that interesting as it suggests bandwidth and storage set the price more then the content itself.

I think what's really setting the price here is 'perceived value'. We are willing to pay more for HD content because it's 'better' in our view. I think they're charging more for it because they can, not because of any physical limitations (like file size or bandwidth limitations).
