Default DCRP Reviews the Nikon D300

http://www.dcresource.com/reviews/nikon/d300-review/index.shtml

"The Nikon D300 is the LONG awaited successor to the D200, which was introduced way back in 2005. This upgrade isn't evolutionary by any stretch of the imagination -- it's a totally new camera. Here are the most significant new features: New 12.3 effective Megapixel DX-format CMOS sensor, EXPEED image processing "concept", Continuous shooting as fast as 8 frames/second (with the optional battery grip), 51-point autofocus with 3D subject tracking, huge 3-inch LCD display with 307,000 pixels (920,000 dots) with live view support, dust reduction system, Picture Control settings let you have sets of color control settings (think Picture Styles on Canon SLRs), Active D-Lighting lets you brighten shadows while taking photos (instead of after), rugged magnesium alloy body is sealed against dust and moisture, HDMI video output. And that's just the short list -- there will be a lot more new stuff mentioned in the review. The D300 is probably the most-anticipated digital SLR of the year. How does it perform? Keep reading -- our review starts right now!"

I know I'm one of the few Nikon DSLR shooters around these parts, but boy oh boy, I'm excited about this camera! There are so many impressive advances in the D300, not the least of which is the fact that it will do 1000 shots on a single battery where my D200 could only manage around 400 or so (though I always felt the battery life was better than others were reporting). Definitely check out the review, but if you only have time to look at one thing, check out this sample image (Nikon F4.0-5.6, 70 - 300 mm VR lens at ISO 100). Look at the office building windows - you can make out what's inside them. Amazing! Nikon Canada has said they'd try to get me one for review in January, so fingers crossed...

Whatever happened to sticking to your D200? Don't lie, I think you'll end up buying it. :P

Looks like they're forbidding a hot link to the sample image.

It's the first night time city shot in the review.

Pretty cool!

Default Peer pressure is a wonderful thing!

Jason, I shared your lust for the D300 until I received one too many emails from "friends" who just got theirs. I found that Best Buy online had it in stock (yeah, Best Buy!) and I pulled the trigger. I've been shooting with the D200 since it came out and LOVE it. My D300 came yesterday and my daughter had her pre-school Christmas party/"concert" today. Needless to say, the D300 performed incredibly. I only used flash for a catchlight and shot ISO 400. Plenty of light. Best part so far is the autofocus system. 51 points is amazing! This thing focuses like the wind, too.

While I certainly didn't need to upgrade from my beloved D200, I think there's a new love in town - D300.

I'll post more information on my blog at http://blog.robtrueman.com. (kill this last line if it's inappropriate to post this information).

Happy holidays all!
