Default TV's with Freakin' Laser Beams

http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=901

"Mitsubishi Electronics today said that it has developed a rear projection TV that utilizes laser light to light up the screen. The company stated that the new technology produces images that are brighter and clearer than the best that plasma can offer. Currently, top leading projection TVs have been powered by DLP or LCD technology which uses special high intensity light bulbs."

No indication as to how far along this is in the development cycle, but I would think there are some safety concerns here. Usually lasers and eyeballs don't mix unless you are getting vision correction surgery.

Maybe that's one of the features of the set. (Or maybe, when you try to zap a commercial, the advertiser can zap you back.)

Assuming they're mechanically scanning the laser, I can't see there being a massive problem. You can hurt your eyes looking into a standard projection bulb.
