Default Sennheiser HD 600's Sure to Please

http://reviews.cnet.com/headphones/..._Search+Results

"When Steve Guttenberg reviewed the Sennheiser HD 650 headphones, he rightfully called them "fit for a king"--while noting that they retail for a correspondingly princely sum of $500. Thankfully, the HD 650s aren't the only model in Sennheiser's high-end audiophile line. The Sennheiser HD 600s can be bought at a 40 percent discount to their big brother. Yes, you'll be substituting a grey and black plastic finish for the 650s' fancy titanium metallic housing, but you'll still be getting a high-end pair of open-air headphones while saving enough money to buy a really nice bottle of vintage wine to sip as you listen to your music of choice."

I've never tried a pair of open-air headphones, but you usually can't go wrong with a pair of Sennheiser's.  I've been very pleased with the earbuds I have from them.

$500?! What is this, www.digitalmansionthoughts.com ???

These seem to get excellent reviews though, but a little out of my price range.

Yesh, $500 LOL!!! Try $350 (see http://www.google.com/products/catal...ct=result&cd=1).

BTW, Steve Guttenberg is a friend on mine and a good guy. Frankly, i have the HD-600 and they are good... for closed ear design for audiophiles and NOT for those who like bass-heavy music (the headphones bottom out). Have since learned that in ear monitors (IEM) like the Etymotic Research ER-4P are leagues better in sound plus provide excellent sound isolation from outside noise sources. See my review at http://www.enjoythemusic.com/magazin...ling_tunes.htm

But if you like closed ear, the Senn HD-600 are good (reviewed WAY BACK in 2002 at www.enjoythemusic.com/magazine/equipment/0702/sennheiserstafan.htm )

$300.74 on Amazon - http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD6...1067894&sr=8-1

I agree that this may sound insane, but hear me out. Spending $300 on a set of speakers for your house would not at all be out of the question, and in reality, you'd probably end up with a pretty cheap setup for $300.

If most of your listening time is spent with headphones, it is pretty easy to justify spending that amount.

Also, I've got earbuds from both Sennheiser and Sure that retailed in the $75 to $150 range. I got each of them on clearance and paid a MUCH lower price, mostly because I was curious how good they could be for that price. I must say, after having used each pair, I would agree that they are worth the money.

HD600s are really hard to power from most sources that from the typical setups I suspect most readers here own. Therefore, don't forget the cost of the amp. :P
