Too bad about that price...
At a third that list price (I'm sure some Chinese manufacturer will jump on this idea) it would make sense to have a couple of these (preferably with integrated spreakers) around the house (kitchen, garage, etc) as a wi-fi radio replacement.
Or, if they want to go gor $100-120, it ought to have a radio tuner, preferably with support for the new digital AM stations.
Not sure it really needs local file connectivity for that mission, though; the idea is that this would be an audio receiver/peripheral not a standalone system.
Not that the market won't have a use for a digital boombox:
