Default Canon PowerShot SD630 Reviewed at Digital Trends

http://reviews.digitaltrends.com/review3542.html

"Three of the biggest trends for 2006 are digicams with more potent 6-megapixel imagers, larger 3-inch LCD screens and higher sensitivity (ISO). For those not swimming in the digital camera sea every day, 6MP imagers are the new sweet spot for most manufacturers, up from 5 last year and 4MP the in 2004. Since next year is 2007, will 7MP be new standard at that time? Who cares? We’ll deal with what’s currently in our hands--which are cameras with ever higher resolution... I really enjoyed shooting with the Canon SD 630 Digital ELPH. It takes very nice photos with colors that are spot on. The compact camera feels right and can be easily carried for the spur of the moment snapshots. It’s designed for the point-and-shoot crowd or someone who just wants a shade more options in their photographic arsenal. "

A very nice review of a very nice camera. To be honest, I've always envied Elph owners because their cameras have all the features of my big camera (except infra-red) at about 1/5 the size. Canon tends to make very solidly-built cameras, which is important in something small enough to stick in your pocket with your keys. If you're in the market for a small, capable camera that takes great pics (and you don't need manual aperture or shutter speed), you could do a lot worse than this guy. Take a look!

I was just looking at this the other day and was very tempted. Is it better in someway than my 550 which is 7.1mp?

I'm not entirely sure as I haven't seen either one in the flesh, but I think this one is better [read: has a higher number] than the 550 because of either A) the larger LCD or B) the larger range of ISO settings. Otherwise, I'm not sure how this differs from previous ELPHs...

I'm thinking the higher ISO and LCD as you say are the bonus here. I'm no expert though.

Well in a very weak moment of "I gotta have a new one", I picked up the SD700 which apparently is the first ELPH to have image stabilization.

I couldn't help it! ops:
