Canon G2 or G3?
Although quite the newbie to photography, I'm planning on getting a very nice digital camera to get me going. I've heard some great things about the Canon G2 and G3 - anyone have an opinion on which one is better? Is there a better source than eBay for equipment?
Thanks!

While those were nice cameras, you're a wee bit out of date. The G5 is the current model. Best to take a look around here:

If you're not going to go DSLR, that Pro1 sure looks nice to me...

should i take my bmw in 3 lites or 4.5???
the G3 is a more advanced camera and some say among the best out there (even getter than a G5 that some say suffers from mild CA)
G3 all the way...
Jason, the Pro1 is nice but 1) its not out yet and 2) its $1000 which is WAY more than the g-series

There is also the S500.
Two other non-Canon cameras you may want to consider are the Sony DSC-V1 and the Nikon Coolpix 5400. They are in the same price range with a very similar feature-set.
Regarding where to buy things, check out http://shopping.yahoo.com or http://www.bensbargains.net or http://www.shopping.com - All three site do comparison based shopping, i.e. will give you prices from many different sites and you can pick the cheapest. I have recently bought things from http://www.ecost.com and they are quite good.

Gary,
I think everyone probably already knows of dpreview.com ;-). But the goal would be, once the site is launched, for people to be able to get access to as good (if not better) reviews of cameras here on DMT.

I personally prefer the G3 due to better controls and egronomics. Beyond that the two are pretty similar.

Thanks for the links and ideas everyone! Please keep in mind that I'm going off to college this fall, so money is the big issue. I'd like to spend only about $400 to get going - no doubt I'll spend more as I become addicted.

Digital media is like a black hole: tripods, mem cards, filters, software, new HD for photos, new PC to handle the newest pshop version....it ever ends
