Default Canon Canada Announces XL2

http://www.canon.ca/press/pr_content_cur.asp?lng=en&cat=1&id=393&arc=0

"Canon’s new XL2 camcorder offers an evolutionary design and new professional features – including a choice of 60i, 24p or 30p frame rates, 4:3 or high resolution 16:9 aspect ratio, new 680,000 pixel progressive scan CCDs, and a full line of customizable controls for cine-looking results. Along with its new 20x interchangeable lens, this new Mini-DV camcorder empowers cinematographers and videographers with a completely customizable broadcast and feature film quality acquisition tool. The professional series XL2 camcorder replaces one of the most successful and iconic products in Canon’s history – the XL1S – as the company’s new digital video camcorder flagship. Canon’s new XL2 camcorder evolves the "open architecture" concept of its XL1 and XL1S predecessors beyond body design to include a wide range of customisable cine-like looks and enhanced image controls previously unavailable in the Mini-DV format."

The Canon XL1S is one of the most popular professional MiniDV cameras on the market, and the much-awaited XL2 is the successor to this popular camera. I can't seem to find a picture anywhere, the the Canon Canada press release has lots of juicy information, including the fact that the XL2 will record in 24p (which is a big deal for people shooting movies). All in all, this looks like a powerful offering from Canon!

Heh. :-) I'm happy with my little GL2. 8) That's too much camera for what I use it for...

 Yeah, I know what you mean. The geek in me covets this amazing camera, but the realist in me knows that it would be serious overkill for the type of stuff I do too.

Boy oh boy do I want this.

The one thing holding DV back for me for any real projects was the lack of 24p. Now with this and that Panasonic cam doing it nicely, it seems I may have to sell all I own and buy it.

24p really is sweet to see. The XL1 was great, and this looks amazing.
