Default Apple Cuts Prices On Cinema Displays

http://www.apple.com/displays/

Apple is reducing prices on its line of professional Cinema displays. Prices on the 20" and 30" models have been slashed to $999 and $2,999, respectively. While the 23" has been reduced to $1,799. The 20" model is clearly the best deal of the bunch, especially since you can use it with PCs as well as a Mac. I plan on getting one for myself this year. 8)

Hmm. I do love all things Apple (guilty!), but I really have a hard time trying to justify the cost difference between these and say Dell or Samsung's monitors. Where's the $500 difference (20")? Other than the obvious, "It's Apple..."

Maybe they have to charge more due to the damage to their display inventory from me drooling in their stores. ops:

Is the 20" Dell for $500 offered in a "wide" version? I could have sworn the 20" widescreen Dell LCD was being sold for $799. Maybe I'm wrong.

I agree with you though. Apple LCD prices are very expensive. I bought a 17" Apple Studio Display about 3 years ago for around $700, which at the time was a good price for a 17" display. I've been wanting a bigger monitor, but I just can't justify the cost of trading in my 17" LCD for one of the bigger Apple LCD displays. In fact, I'm thinking about buying a cheap 17" Dell LCD when the price drops to $150 after discounts. The dual-monitor setup would give me 2560 x 1024 resolution at a fraction of the cost.

Yeah. You can find it "on sale" for about mid-$500 with coupons. I think list is closer to the $799. From what I keep hearing the Dell LCDs are very nice monitors.

I have one of the Dell 20" wide-screens. Bought it on sale for $530 or so. The resolution is identical to the 20" Apple Cinema, and the display is absolutely gorgeous.

For the price of Apple's displays, I would get two Dell LCDs (consistently highly rated in the PC world) and set it up as a dual screen.

Once you go wide, you can never go back! (I own at 17" iMac G5 among other PCs.)

I'm sure Dell doesn't make their own monitors.. and neither do Apple. Maybe they have the same OEM? =P
