The race for the "world's best" processor continues, and we'll see the trickle down effect later in the year. Quad-core systems will become more commonplace, which will be great for video editing and transcoding. With all of the DVD ripping and video encoding I've been doing the past week or so, I really wish I had more CPU horsepower. As soon as quad-cores hit the sub $200 mark, I'll be upgrading. How about you? Any use for that much power?
When bioshock came out, I dumped 1700 bucks into a new computer that i said I would when a next gen game came out that I wanted (I was surviving with a 2800xp with a 7800gs AGP). My new comp is a quad core 6600 with an evga 8800 ultra. Ive packed it into a bad ass antec p180b case and its quieter then my old computer. ^^
Yeah what really amazes me about these new CPUs is not the performance, but the performance per watt. Many AMDs CPUs over the past year or two have produced more performance than their predecessors with even lower power consumption. Great for HTPC applications where you need lots of power in a quiet package.
