Default Alienware DHD

http://www.alienware.com/product_pages/media_center_dhd.aspx

"30-inch LCD HDTV? Check. Integrated Media Center 2004 PC? Check. Alienware brand? Check. Options up to a 3.4GHz Pentium 4, ATI Radeon X800 XT Platinum Edition with 256MB GDDR3 RAM, 12x DVD±R/RW drive, and Dolby Digital 5.1? Check. In a few years when all the hardware on this thing is out of date, it’s going to seem like a bad investment for all those peeps who dropped 6½ to 8 dimes on it? Check."

Wow, Alienware really knows how to deliver those high end machines, don't they? Looks at it this way, you only have to pay $244 per month (for a long time) and lease it if you can't drop the $8K+ on it right away. Anyways, it sure looks like a sweet Media solution.

Okay.
*This* I don't get.

Expensive TV sets are expected to have *long* lifecycles.
High-end gaming boxes have *short* lifecycles measured in weeks.

Except for Macs, all-in-one PCs have never gotten very far in the market, yet these folks think there is room for a monster version?

Are professional athletes *that* interested media center PCs? ;-)

This could have been a decent play if Alienware had made the PC part of this a big module, something that could be completely replaced 2-3 years from now when it gets long in the tooth. Still, it's cool. ;-)
