Default Toshiba Plans Marketing Push for HD-DVD

http://today.reuters.com/news/newsarticle.aspx?type=technologyNews&storyid=2006-02-17T085951Z_01_N17347526_RTRUKOC_0_US-TOSHIBA.xml

"Toshiba American Consumer Products on Thursday announced an ambitious marketing push in support of HD-DVD but conceded that some of the high-definition optical disc format's interactive features won't be available in the two first-generation players slated to hit stores next month without a "firmware upgrade." Meanwhile, sources close to the rival Blu-ray Disc camp say an agreement has been reached on an interim license for the AACS copy-protection system both formats will use, removing one of the final obstacles that had been standing in the way of a launch."

I think this might be ill-planned based on the price points I've seen so far, but who knows. All I know is that right now I couldn't even fit the Toshiba HD-DVD player I saw at CES into my home entertainment system. It was huge. You know what would get me even more interested in buying new DVDs? Aspect ratios that actually matched my TV so I'd get to utilize all of it! It's so incredibly irritating to put in a movie and that's at some awful ultra-wide aspect ratio, and I lose 30% of my total screen space. But I digress...
