TiVo Users Replayed Ameriquest Ads Most During Super Bowl
"TiVo was watching you Sunday night. The folks at the PVR company know exactly what commercials you watched again and again, and which football plays had you hitting the replay button. Two Ameriquest commercials were highest on the top 10 list. A controversial touchdown call in the second quarter got nearly as much replay and rewind activity as the most popular commercials, which all had one thing in common: They used laughter to grab eyeballs. Here's the list of commercials that made the top 10 list this year:
1. Ameriquest, Friendly Skies
2. Ameriquest, That Killed Him
3. Budweiser, Streaking Sheep
4. Fed Ex, Caveman
5. Michelob, Touch Football
6. Bud Light, Hidden Bud Lights
7. Sierra Mist, Kathy Griffin
8 . Bud Light, Bear Attack
9. Aleve, Leonard Nimoy
10. Bud Light, Revolving Wall" Very cool, I ended up not rewinding as many ads because the game was generally a sad experience for me. Having moved to Seattle, I have been surrounded by SeaHawks fans for some time now and have been really getting into the spirit. So losing was quite a sucky experiece. Anyways, what were your favorite ads from the evening?

I'm sorry, I don't have a favorite commercial because I didn't watch the superbowl...
But I just have to comment that TiVo monitoring what I watch is EVIL. Sure, tracking what commercials we watched is pretty benign, but how much pressure do you think it would take for the powers-that-be to subpoena those records? Not alot methinks. One more reason I'm glad I have a generic DVR...

Just echoing what Imperium is saying - I have Sky+ and would be appalled to discover that Sky were monitoring what I was watching and replaying. As far as I'm concerned, the only acceptable reason for the box dialing home is to confirm that it's being used in my house only.
Don't you find it disturbing that the TV company knows your viewing habits?

My favorite was the Ameriquest Killing the Fly.
As far as TIVO keeping track of what you are watching, that was clearly stated when signing up for the service...... "to better serve you" Don't you read the disclamers and fine print when you sign a contract????

I agree that's why my My PVR is a Snapstream setup. www.gcustom.com I can even do home control and the computer won't call home and send private information back out to anyone. My favorite is when I take the system over to a big screen HDTV. Oh and no monthly fee either.

What card are you using in your snapstream machine? I just built one with the Haupage PVR-150 and quite pleased with it.
I guess you have a HD compatible card? |

So I have this theory...I wonder if some really great TV shows wouldn't have been cancelled if the networks could ACCURATELY measure how many viewers it had. It seems like the random Neilson boxes (they still do that, right?) have too much power over what TV shows stay on the air vs. the ones that get taken off. If I could show my loyalty to TV shows that I enjoy, I would become being "tracked" as long as it was anonymous. |

I actually agree that the Nielson system is way outmoded. Shoot, we did it once when I was a kid and we didn't even get a box. Just a pamphlet where we wrote down what we were watching. As a 15-year-old, I went through the TV guide and copied down every instance of Star Trek into the pamphlet. They must have noticed that I was watching TV 24 hours in a row... Or maybe it was such a dumb system they didn't...
In any case, if there were somehow a way for the TV station itself to tell when we were tapping into the signal, that would be ideal. I don't like any machine reporting on my activities to anyone, no matter how anonymous they say it is... It never really is...
I don't even like Safeway tracking how often I buy bread vs. peanut butter (which they absolutely do). |
