Default Samsung Develops 5 MP Camera Phone Sensor

http://uk.news.yahoo.com/041020/323/f4wod.html

"South Korea's Samsung Electronics has developed the world's first mobile phone equipped with a five-megapixel camera. The latest model, called the SCH-S250, has a charge-coupled device camera and high-sensitivity flash which allow users to take high-quality pictures. It can also function as a camcorder. Built-in cameras are considered basic features in mobile phones but most camera phones have picture resolutions of less than one megapixel, meaning the pictures can sometimes be poor quality even if the technology is improving all the time."

5 MP in a camera phone? Ok, great. But what about the image quality? Have we finally moved beyond the muddy CMOS images? I've yet to see an image from a camera phone that makes me go "Nice photo!".

It's based on the Pentax Optio S series technology. Can't be that bad.

If the image quality is any good, I could see the soccer moms eating this up - they would always have a camera with them to capture those precious moments with the kids.

5MP images are pretty darn big, though, even with lots of compression, so you'd want to have a pretty big SD card in your phone!
