Netgear WGT634U 108 Mbps Wireless Media Router - Features a USB 2.0 Port for Attached Storage
" Netgear has just introduced the WGT634U 108 Mbps Wireless Media Router that comes equipped with a USB 2.0 port for attaching external storage (see list of compatible drives). The device, which will sell for under $200, gives consumers an affordable solution for Super-G network connectivity and storage. When an external drive is attached users will be able to do mundane tasks like backing up files or as wireless media server for streaming digital photos, audio, and video to other network devices in the home." Consumer NAS is very popular now. At this rate, every WiFi router will have a USB 2.0 port and support external hard drives. Very nice! 8)

Very cool!
Just wondering though, how do you set drive share permissions and how secure is that?

The thing I want to know is whether or not this will improve networking performance for file sharing. I've ripped every CD in my collection and have 17,000 audio files - even though I've broken them up into 12+ sub-folders based on genre, folder browsing over the network (100 mbit) is BRUTALLY slow. :-(

Why don't you set up a database for all your songs and then search through the database for the song you are looking for which could return a file path that you could access more directly. I am writing a similar thing for managing all my images and I will be extending it to manage all my books and CDs as well.

Well, that's what WMP's library function does. ;-) There are occasions though when I need to find a file manually, and was simply pointing out that it's very slow.
