Default Microsoft Targets People Who Have Too Much Free Time

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=528&e=1&u=/ap/20040304/ap_on_hi_te/microsoft_visual_diary

Have you ever wanted to own a device which can be worn around the neck, automatically snaps over 2,000 images, and creates a digital diary of your daily life? Neither have I, but apparently the good folks at Microsoft believe this is something I can't live without. The device, called SenseCam, is essentially a small digicam that responds to changes in the users environment, such as sudden change in ambient lighting, increase in temperature, heart rate, sounds, body oder (Ok, I made that last one up. ), and records the information in an archive. Granted, there may be a practical use for this in the security field, but for the average end user this looks about as practical as a dead rat on a stick.

Your thoughts?

Heh. Mine would be:

1,997 photos of my computer monitors
3 pictures of the toilet when I actually get up

What would everyone elses' breakdown be?

Mine would be very similar, except I' d have slightly fewer photos of monitor, and probably about extra 50 of my professors lecturing/seminar or meeting since I'm in grad school.

Over all it seems like a cool idea though. I'm wondering if there's a feature that allow it to take a picture at an interval (e.g. 1 picture every 5 minutes) in addition to sensing environment. That might actually be of some use! Personally I forget what I did and where I was occasionally at the end of the day, and this might help me trace where I lost my eraser!

Hah. Good point. Mine would be more like images of me crawling out of bed early in the morning, staggering to the kitchen to put on a pot of coffee, falling into the shower, slipping and falling on the floor once again as I exit the shower, flipping some guy the bird for cutting me off in traffic on my way to work, sitting at my desk staring at an LCD, working in Dreamweaver/Fireworks/Photoshop all day, frantically racing to Subway to grab lunch and beat the clock, praying for death, finish my day, race home grab a bite to eat, meat with friends, browse the web or play a PC game, watch a little bit of the History Channel, pray for death, hop in the shower (slipping and falling), go to bed.

Rinse and repeat.

Hmmm...I like rats, so this would be fitting for me, as I think the idea is a fun one. It reminds me of the photo shoot pt did of himself, every 30 minutes, over a few days. It's kind of a cool idea. I'd think for something like a vacation, where you don't want or can't hold a camera constantly. Personally, I'd have liked to have had something like this for the marathon I did last weekend. It would have been cool to capture much more than my friends and family did from the road.
