Default Low Cost Portable Video Player

http://www.i4u.com/article1811.html

"Mustek released a low-cost personal/portable Video Player (PVR) called the PVR-A1. The Mustek PVR-A1 measures It 96 X 77 X 20mm and weighs 110g. The PVR-A1 has a 2.5" TFT color screen. The internal memory is 32MB and it can support MMC/SD-Cards to extend the memory. The PVR records directly from AV sources. The Mustek PVR-A1 supports PAL and NTSC. Besides Video the Mustek can also deal with MP3s and photos (ASF / JPG / MP3 / WAV). Buy the Mustek PVR-A1 now at BoyStuff.co.uk for £169.95 ($280.42)."

BoyStuff.co.uk sells the Mustek PVR-A1 for £169.95 ($280.42) though I am seeing it cheaper through general searches, i.e. under $240. But one thing, this unit looks very smart. The Mustek PVR-A1 is actually a pretty decent PMP for the price in terms of features as it offers a 2.5" color screen, playback of MP3 & WAV music files, JPEG photo viewing (you can even print photos directly from the device on PictBridge compatible printers), and video recording (via RCA cables) and playback of MPEG-4 video on its screen. I definitely like the looks of the unit and am looking forward to hearing customer reviews.

I want a PVR that can handle Xvid and Divx. I have never encoded any video in MPEG-4, why do all the players use MPEG-4?

I once had a Mustek SCSI-base scanner. It was a piece of crap. That brand name scares me...but the device still looks cool.

This device seems to be getting good reviews in most articles though. Maybe their have changed their ways.

But only 32 MB ?!?!?! Wouldn't you expect more nowadays? It sure looks cool, though.

The reason it's so cheap is that they expect you to add your own 512 MB or 1 GB SD card. :-)
