Default Canon PowerShot SD890 IS

http://www.dcresource.com/news/news...tem.php?id=3723

"This PowerShot SD890 IS Digital ELPH camera is a prime example of Canon quality, from the tip of its 5x optically image stabilized, zoom lens to the big and brilliant 2.5 inch PureColor II LCD display embedded in the camera’s contoured back. Indeed, it is that very 5x zoom lens that expands the user flexibility by expanding the focusing range from a maximum wide-angle equivalent of a 37mm lens to its maximum optical telephoto equivalent of a 185mm lens. Ideal for capturing everything from broad sweeping vistas to intimate close-ups, the PowerShot SD890 IS Digital ELPH model is also capable of securing macro images from less than an inch away from the subject, making extraordinary, high-resolution nature shots as elementary as point and shoot."

The confusing model numbers from Canon continue. I wonder whether they are soon going to run out of whole numbers and start going with fractions. That aside, the SD890IS is supposed to replace the SD850. This 10MP camera comes with Image Stabilization, the Digic III chip and a brand new LCD screen. It appears to be faster and has auto-redeye correction. For $399, it is a little pricey but the price-to-quality ratio may actually be quite good.

I *think* you mean SD890IS replaces the 850.

What I love: the 5x optical zoom. That's awesome to get more zoom in a still fairly-slim camera. The other improvements don't seem significant to me, but more zoom is always appreciated.

What I don't love: the lack of 720p video (1280 x 720). Canon's competition is doing it in their P&S cameras, why aren't they? I think I may try a different brand of camera, because video is a main use scenario for me on my P&S cameras, and I'm weary of being limited to 640 x 480. Maybe they're doing this to protect the turf of their TX1, but it's short-sighted not to continue to build improved video into their camera line...
