Hey Jason,
That's funny you mention that DLP, because I've been helping my mom build a new entertainment center for her home (which is beginning to turn out very nice, if I do say so myself, and no, I don't live with my mom  ), and I helped her purchase the new Samsung 61" HLP6163W DLP from TV Authority through the PowerBuy opportunity off of AVS Forums. Got a really great price, and a free XBox along with it.
It's a very nice TV. I had her buy a line conditioner as well, so that, along with silver-based video cables and interconnects, Comcast HD signal, and the other really nice equipment I had her purchase, the TV should really perform well. (I have yet to set everything up, but I'll keep you posted when I have it all finished).
I think you'll be really happy with it. The funny thing about DLP's, though, is that in many ways, they're much like a computer inside, and the fans can emit a bit of a high pitched whirr that may or may not be annoying to you. My mom, myself, and others noticed it. But since then, I think we've all adjusted to it because we don't really notice it much at all anymore. I've learned that high pitched fan whirr is often due to vibration and little else. When I had the TV on her carpet, I couldn't hear it at all, but once I set the TV onto the new stand I had her buy, it was noticable. So if you place your TV off of the floor and onto a stand (which you most likely will due to the size of the TV), you may opt to placing a piece of carpeting or floor rubber onto your stand, and then set the TV onto that. This should help absorb the vibration and reduce the whirr a fair amount.
Enjoy your new TV!
