Default Stressed By Traffic? Call a Dolphin!

http://www.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/europe/08/05/dolphins.reut/index.html

"Scientists at a dolphin sanctuary off the west coast of Ireland have teamed up with British mobile telecoms giant Vodafone to transmit the clicking and whistling sounds of bottlenose dolphins.

"In theory you could phone up and listen to dolphins while sitting in a traffic jam in Dublin," said marine biologist Simon Berrow, of the Shannon Dolphin and Wildlife Foundation, based in Kilrush, County Clare.

As well as its use as a possible stress reliever, the project could also lead to a greater understanding of the life of dolphins and could prove helpful to dolphin-watchers who will be able to check if the creatures are in the Shannon estuary before starting out from shore."

I don't know which part of this brilliant scheme I like best... the idea of calling a number to listen to dolphins or the suggestion that you do so while driving in heavy traffic. Of course, the much more controversial aspect of this is their choice of animal. Time for another Thoughts poll!

Well, I voted for "Other" - somehow, I think the idea of listening to whale song could be quite soothing when stuck in traffic - probably much more calming than listening to chimpanzees!!!!

Maybe listening to hamsters running in a wheel would be relaxing, or then again, the sound of a mouse's bones being crunched by a domestic cat could be just as relaxing.

Personally, I prefer the simple sound of the sea.
