Default Zune Desktop Software Update Just Released...For The Reviewers Who Installed it Last Week

I was listening to music using the Zune software, and look what popped up: an update! The download installed fairly quickly, and as I'm writing this my system is rebooting (strange that it required a reboot). So what's new in the update? No clue - I didn't see anything in the install process explaining what was new or changed (which is always a bit irritating - I think software should explain to the user why they should install the update). Was this update planned all along, or is it a fast reaction to the complaints I've been reading about regarding the album art and metadata problems I (and others) have been seeing? I'll update this post if anything stands out in the new version of the software.

UPDATE: Ok, so my pal Cesar at Zune Insider tells me there was no new software update, so I'm wondering if perhaps the reviewer's copy I was given was older than the version that you've all been downloading since yesterday. Gonna' install both on another machine and look at the versions, then see if I need to feel like an idiot or not. ;-)

UPDATE #2: Sorry for the false alarm people. It turns out that the software I was given on CD was version 2.1.806, and I assume that the version that went live yesterday was the same version - it wasn't. They released version 2.1.888 yesterday, and it just took my copy of the old software a full day to realize there was a newer version out. Given the complaints I've seen about the software in our forums, and elsewhere, I was hoping Microsoft had a new version with some fixes ready to go. Seems not. Let's hope we'll see a new version before the end of the month!

Default Software update

I just check mine - a new download from yesterday morning - and it is up to date. I think it's a little early for them to be responding to the recent complaints/suggestions.

You and me both, pal. I really hope the Zune team gets a new version out by the end of the week that allows you to edit more Meta data. After this week, I hope they release new point releases of the Zune software quickly. I hope there's not a huge gap of releases like there was with the version 1 firmware updates.
