I think the 1 Zune Pass to 1 Zune Social profile devalues the Zune Pass for families.
I posted about this awhile back, and I would love to get more visibility to let Microsoft know this is a bigger problem that maybe holding back adoption of such a service.
I'm hoping that next year's Spring Update will include some of the smaller - but arguably more important - features that we've been asking for, like Unicode support, Minimize to Tray, taskbar controls, and more codecs. I still can't believe they don't support .gif or .png images, even in the software.
Looks like an EQ won't come until the G3 hardware though.
Jason - thanks for the AWESOME overview of the new features.
When I heard a new update was coming, I was hoping they would have addressed the multi-Zune family issue.
It's VERY disappointing that they still haven't fixed this issue. You hit the nail on the head - families LOVE the fact that they can share one Zune Pass for 3 family members! It's the BEST feature of the Zune!!!
Please continue to hound the folks at MSFT about this. Hopefully they will address it soon!
Is there any mention of supporting the new recorded tv format in vista media center? MS has replaced the dvr-ms format for wtv, currently not supported by zune.

I agree completely - I was trying to make the point, quite emphatically, that a family getting unlimited music for three people for $15 is a huge bargain and that they were really screwing up by not having multiple profile (persona) support in the software. The general reply was that while they allowed three Zunes to get Zune Pass content, they didn't specifically target this feature at families. I think they should - they have a great advantage over Apple here, and they should be promoting it to the hilt!
I'll try to make some noise about this on the front page next week.

Agreed. Those things are needed to enhance the experience for all users, and I think the Zune team realizes that - but those things aren't "big bullet" marketing items, they're small refinements...which is why it's surprising that some of those refinements didn't squeak their way into the product this time around.

Yes, exactly right - we won't see an EQ in the hardware until the Zune team orders a DSP with hardware EQ support. Why they got the Wolfson DSP without EQ support is beyond me...

You're talking about Fiji, right? There will be no update rolled out to all the Vista computers out there now - Fiji will only be available on new computers from major OEMs. So the footprint will be quite small for the time being...but I'll ask them if they have plans to build in support, because I doubt it's there for 3.0.

I just asked my Zune contact, and it turns out I was wrong - they did in fact add support for WTV in this 3.0 release. So you're good.
