The number of Android phones will be more than earlier expected,' an LG spokesman said."</em></p><p><img src="http://images.thoughtsmedia.com/resizer/thumbs/size/600/wpt/auto/1281925518.usr110171.jpg" style="border: 0;" /></p><p>The Korea Times is reporting that a senior executive with LG Electronics has indicated that it intends to sell upward of 6 million smartphones this year. Of the 6 million phones, 1.8 million are intended to be based on the Windows Mobile platform (It's not obvious from the context if they are actually referring to Windows Phone 7, 6.5.x phones or some combination.). Clearly, it is intending a major push in the Android market and, based on the development of that platform in the last year, that's not too surprising. It will be fun to watch the next 6-8 weeks to see if LG is the first out the door with a commercial Windows Phone 7 device.</p>
