You can always use Evernote to view PDFs for free. Tho you cant save them from the iPad. You'd need to do that from a computer...but they'll be available on your iPad/iPhone afterwards.

Also, if you do need a free alternative, CloudReaders is a very decent one.

I'll really soon publish an all-in-one roundup of all PDF readers; in there, I elaborate a lot on other readers as well.

Goodreader was one of the first apps I bought for my iPad. I have a lot of PDFs because whenever I buy a product, I always download the PDF manual from the manufacturer's website. It's just easier than digging through boxes trying to find the manual if I need it.

Though if you're looking for a free alternative: iBooks now works with PDFs. :-)
