Jonathan Rentzsch got tired of trying to work with them and packed it up and went home. I can understand being frustrated when you think you have an idea of how something should work, yet your ideas fall on deaf ears. It also appears, at least from what I read in his post on this, that he is upset that more of his fellow Apple programming friends weren't upset like he was about some wording in the iPhone OS 4.0 SDK, specifically section 3.3.1. So rather than beat his head against the wall when they didn't want to do it his way, he decided to stop bruising his forehead and discontinue the conference. Maybe he should have just taken a "time out" and worked at it from another angle instead of throwing a fit. At least that is what I get out of this, what are your thoughts?

Perhaps since you aren't a developer, you didn't get the gist of his post. His point is that he's was trying to promote the creation of better development toolkits at his conference. Apple's development tools are archaic, at least by competing industry standards. Section 3.3.1 removes the ability for developers to actually create such toolkits. Thus, the lack of need for such a conference.

And yes, he's miffed that the Apple-zombies are not screaming bloody murder about the restrictions as they should be. Almost every "real" developer is.

This is, to me, akin to bitching at sausage makers because they don't use the grinder I want them to use.

I'm not a sausage maker, I just want my sausage. I'm not a developer, I just want my apps.

I'm not a sausage maker, I just want my sausage. I'm not a developer, I just want my apps.

Or bitching at Nike because they use child labor to make shoes. I'm not a shoemaker. I just want my shoes.

Or bitching at power companies for using coal fired power plants. I don't live in West Virginia and I won't live long enough to see the effects of global warming. I just want my power.

Or bitching at Microsoft for forcing PC makers to preinstall their OS on all PC's or lose their license to sell Windows. I'm not a PC maker. I just want my Windows PC.

Turning a blind eye to evil is bad no matter the source or consequences.

Good thing we're not prone to hyperbole.

Oh I don't have to be a developer to see when someone is having a hissy fit...cutting off their nose to spite their face, that sort of thing...having done something similar in my past life, I think it would have been better to step back from it before making a hasty decision, but in the end it's his decision.
