An interesting article on Webmonkey Microsoft Says Web Video in IE9 Is All About H.264 | Webmonkey| Wired.com (http://www.webmonkey.com/2010/04/microsoft-says-web-video-in-ie9-is-all-about-h264/) tells of the future of Microsoft's browser product. Seems they are promoting h.264 over other codecs.

Does this mean wmv is dated or not long for this world?

Sounds like a patent spat. MS owns patents concerning the h.264 codec, so that is what they are going to 'natively' support in their browser.

Guess is that various other codecs will remain playable via plug-ins, just as they currently are.
