Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if lots of people used the Sims to do their layouts. One of the problems I find with most layout software is that it is not easy to use. It definitely has come a long way, but it is has a much longer way to go before it is an everyone solution. Of all the ones they list, I've found Ikea's software the easiest to use, though they do kind of limit things for obvious reasons.
