My gifts came this year a bit early in the form of a <a href="http://hansberry.smugmug.com/Motorcycles/OurBikes" target="_blank">brace of Harley Davidsons</a> for me and the misses (after the break). The kids got some new gadgets though, some of which haven't been unwrapped yet, so I'll hold off on the details for now. So tell us what you got!<MORE /></p><p><a href="http://hansberry.smugmug.com/Motorcycles/OurBikes" target="_blank"><img alt="Rumble rumble rumble..." border="0" src="http://www.ehansberry.com/ppct/2009/20091226-hd.jpg" style="border: 1px solid #d2d2bb;" /></a></p><p>Yeah, in our house, HD no longer stands for High-Def. <img border="0" src="http://www.ehansberry.com/ppct/smile.gif" /></p>

Unfortunately no gadgets :(

I asked for a Zune HD and even said I'd settle for an iPod Touch, but my wife felt I didn't need either...

So I got a new wallet, some nice clothes, and my gadget lust is left unfufilled for another year.

I got a Touch Pro 2 and in spite of all the marvelous reviews I read about it, I am not impressed. In fact, I'm going back to my Touch Pro 1. The only thing I liked about it was the tilt keyboard.

Things I hated:

1. No D pad
2. Clicking on items was slow and sometimes needed repeated taps.
3. When I went into "settings" and then "all settings" I never did find where to set up a password or enter owner information.

I thought the transiton would be a breeze but I found it to frustrating to try and navigate and set it up like my Touch Pro 1.

It was described as chunky, but I felt it had a slim feel and felt good in hand.

I'm thouroughly convinced that "new" is not always "best."

Canon Rebel. But the absolute best thing I got was a handmade version of Jayne's Cunning Hat from Firefly!

Huh - your wife must be in cahoots with my wife! 20 years and my wife has never gotten me anything even vaguely gadget related. Yeah - I got clothes too just like every Christmas.

To be fair, my wife did buy me my first iPod (Black 30GB Classic) four years ago. She doesn't understand the big difference between flash memory, the apps and the wifi that would have made the upgrade of either media player an upgrade in my enjoyment of my music and videos.

I guess there's always my birthday, or our anniversary for her to see the light!

We have a rule in our house - "Clothes are a necessity and not gifts." (Although, the Jayne hat would probably be a gray area.) ;)

The wife and I got each other Zune HDs! WOO HOO! I can't wait for news of new Apps. I'm enjoying it very much. Still love my old Zune 30 too.

Nothing here. No gadgets, not even any cool goodies to bolt onto my 1986 Kawasaki EX250.

A kid in my second grade Sunday school class that I teach got an iPod Nano for Christmas though. Lucky.

No gadgets this Christmas. Clothes and a couple of commentaries (hardback). I still can't get the family to believe that a book on my trusty 4155 or laptop is a real book too.

Given what I do for a living, when it comes to gadgets, I buy my own - and it's a tax write off. Gotta' love that! :D

A couple of weeks before Christmas, I got the Panasonic GF-1:

And the Panasonic DMC-TS1:

In terms of other gifts, I got a few Blu-ray discs (Braveheart, Gangs New York, Any Given Sunday, Friday Night Lights), a bunch of CDs, some clothes, and some money - I've been saving up for the Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8 lens for a while now, and finally have enough to buy it. Woo hoo! :D

Going way off topic here, but hey, it's the off-topic forum, so...

(Firefly / Serenity rank high among our favorites.... :D )

Another fan right here. Though I came about it in an odd way...I was initially very ticked off that some stupid show named "Firefly" was the reason Dark Angel was cancelled, and didn't watch it. Then when Serenity came out on DVD, I watched it...and was quite impressed with it, watching it a couple of more times. Then, last year, I bought the Firefly boxed set - and really enjoyed the show, finally understanding what all the hype was about. I now count myself a fan of Firefly, and Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog to boot. :D I haven't watched Dollhouse at all though...is it any good?

Best "gift" this year was having ALL of our kids, along with spouses / significant others - AND First Grandson  - on hand for both Christmas Eve and Christmas morning, with Extended Family Fun continuing throughout the weekend.

However, we did end up with a couple of early Christmas presents: after umpteen years, finally had new windows installed in early Nov: wife was so happy ;) that she granted permission to update our "home theater," so have been enjoying a wonderful 50" Panasonic Plasma & new Blu Ray player (supplementing our orphaned HDDVD player).

A new plasma TV and Blu-ray player is certainly a significant gadget gift! :)

Ironically we have a few self imposed rules on gifts.
1. My wife is not to purchase any electronics for me as gifts unless I explicitly asked for it. Basically I told her that no matter how much she sees me looking at it, if I haven't put the money down for it, I'm still not sure about it yet. I told the rest of my family the same thing.

2. My wife told me not to buy her games. The last one was Conduit (Wii) and she felt guilty about not liking something that I bought her. And I agree it was a stinker, so I let her exchange (Amazon) it with a clear conscience.

This year, among other things she got me a $150 gift card and forbade me from using it towards the household or anyone else. The box was full of paper cut-outs of Zune HDs, Smartphone's, a Tumi bag, and a SEV jacket. All suggestions of course.:D

Was looking for a small portable speaker doc for the Zen Vision M, with no luck, so Mrs. Clause said "why not a new player". The Vision M has been fine, except slow to start up and a bit bulky. Read a lot of reviews and thought the Zen X-Fi would be worth a try. So far I'm not disappointed. Loading 20GB via USB was very slow and painful; more about that later. But, it sounds really good, starts up fast, and is a great small size. Included in-ear headphones are quite good. Very nice screen. Nav with the 13 buttons takes a few minutes to master. Didn't try the optional speakers yet. Oh, the %$#! packaging was the most difficult beast I've ever had to break into.

I like Dollhouse, got Season One on Bluray for Christmas. Definitely worth the rent.

My wife is very un-techy, and rarely buys me tech products as gifts (generally for a very good reason), but this year she bought me a Powermat along with an iPod universal charger for the Powermat. She hates seeing wires, so this minimizes the tangle a bit. It's a pretty cool device.

Well, as I said, no tech for me, but my youngest got a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop that he loves. Will be perfect for homework, the occasional movie and the hallpass.com games he loves to play.

My oldest got an XBox 360 Elite package, an extra wireless controller, wifi connector and a 1yr x-box live gold package. The latter was totally absurd in how we had to activate it. We spent an hour on the web trying to get it to activate and eventually 2 calls to X-Box live support totalling at least 2 hrs. turns out that if you have a Zune account, getting the x-box live stuff to activate is a major pain. microsoft's whole passport/live thing totally sucks. :( the 360 itself though is great!

I did get Life Season 2, The Hulk and BSG - The Plan on DVD as well as a Harley Davidson daily calendar. Life was really a good show, cancelled because of the writer's strike last year. I purchased about 15 songs and 2-3 albums based on the music in that show. Whoever did the music for it, well done.

Well, technically I didn't get any "techie" gifts for Christmas but like others on these forums, my family knows better than to choose for me. So, I ended up ordering a new Samsung BD-P1600 Blueray Player with my Amex points. And, I also ordered an new Bluetooth watch for myself.

We did buy a new 32" LCD TV and Digital Cable box for my daughter though.

Afterthought: Oh yes, I did buy my wife a remote car starter for her new car too!

My wife bought me the Samsung SMX-C10GN. I'm the first to admit I'm no filmmaker and just looking forward to playing with it taking videos of our cats, general day to day things, and such. It's a nice little camcorder for taking those quick shots here and there and its compact size makes it easy for me to carry it with me in my pocket all the time.

Our big gift to each other was finally taking the plunge and getting an HDTV for the living room. We bought the Samsung LN46B640 at Best Buy during an after Christmas sale and love it.
