I will replace internal HDs, if the drive will work in my computer (I don't think an SATA will). If not, I'll get a case for it and use it outside.
In any event, I'll keep my OS on the internal 80GB, and get rid of the 40 GB, I think the smaller one slows down my computer anyway.

This one will compete my RAID set up (RAID 1).

External drive for me - backups of photos, ability to take files with me if needed. I have a lot of internal storage already so this would be great for just general backups.

I have an old Dell which I wan't to convert to WHS and it has a 500GB HD. I believe a second 500GB drive would work nicely for mirroring.

My daughter's computer badly needs the storage and backup space another drive would provide.

I'd add this to the storage pool on my WHS

I would use it as an external drive and backup all of our computers.

I'd probably put it in an enclosure and use it as an external drive.

My HP desktop is almost 5 years old, with heavy home-business use. I would replace the 160gb eide drive before it fails.

I would use it for a new PC I'm building for my sister. Her old PC is dying so I'm donating a bunch of parts to the cause. I don't have a good hard drive yet so this would be a huge help.

I want to build a FreeNAS server and I need some storage space. This would be a great start.

Someone just gave me a Pentium 4 mobo, and it has SATA. I'd ditch my old Athlon XP board and 80gb hard drive for the new parts.

I would fill it up with my kids DVDs and hook it up to my media center machine so they could have spongebob on demand streaming...

I would use it to replace the data drive in my media server which is too small and running out of space.

I would add it as an external drive to my network. I'm in the process of upgrading from 200GB to 1TB. So another 500GB would be sweet!

It'll go into my WHS box.

Backup all my photos

I would use it as a primary for my main system. Something I can put Windows 7 on to test to see if I'll keep it on or not.

SATA. Won't work in an older machine without a Promise card (or similar)....

Would probably still roll it through: add the 500 to mine, roll my 250 over to my wife (who has started to appreciate the joys of digital photography), and then roll one of her (IDE) drives to the Designated (but not yet Really Operational) Household Backup / Server.....

I've been looking for a drive for external storage - been relying on internal storage on an ancient PC for way too long... testing fate!

I'll replace my ~6 or 7 year old main drive with this new one and retire my old one to be a temporary storage for my "to be burnt" items.

500 would get added to my home server and almost double the space on it now.

This would be used as the second drive in my HP Mediavault.

Since I plan to do the exact same thing with drive as I did with the drive in the first competition, had I won it, my answer will be the same.

I currently have a 500gb drive in my system which is quickly filling up due to my main 2 interests

1. Photography (shooting with a Canon 40d)
2. PC games

I could REALLY use this drive as a dedicated disk to hold all my pictures.

I would definitely use this as a backup drive in an external case.

I will use this to set up a hardware RAID 1 mirror of my 500 GB c-drive for redundancy and data protection.

I'd replace my external 250 GB harddrive, and reuse the enclosure.
