An updated version of the bank's mobile app out this week accepts checks that have been photographed with the iPhone."</em></p><p><em><img src="http://images.thoughtsmedia.com/resizer/thumbs/size/600/at/auto/1249929018.usr105634.jpg" style="border: 1px solid #d2d2bb;" /></em></p><p>Basically, it boils down to taking a picture of the front and the back, after it is signed of course, and sending the image via this <a href="http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=312325565&amp;mt=8" target="_blank">app</a>. This is only for the 60% or so of the USAA customers that have credit along with insurance though the bank, but since most of the clients are military it might be quite handy for them. I personally think direct deposit is the way to go but having options is always a plus.</p>

I'll have to give this a shot. We tried to deposit a check once through their scanner-based interface and had a poor experience (essentially the endorsement has to be EXACTLY what they are looking for and the OCR to determine this isn't all that super-duper). Should be interesting to see what they've done to make it possible for this to work with such a low-res camera...

I'd be very curious to see how/if this works out for you. I'd like to be able to use my iPhone for pretty much anything and this would be one more checkmark on that list :)
