I don't have a Slingbox, but have been following this situation, and it's ridiculous. AT&T allows YouTube, right? I'm sure there's a MUCH smaller % of people who even have a Slingbox compared to the number of people that utilize Youtube. I don't get what they're so worried about where they have to cripple it for 3G.

Forget YouTube. They allow the damn Slingplayer! I swear between AT&T's BS with the streaming and Sling gouging on the price for this crippled hunk, I'm in a really foul mood about the whole thing.

Sling gouging on the priceHow much is the WM or PalmOS version of the SlingPlayer? I know the PC/Mac desktop clients are free.

It's $30 for every platform (which is in and of itself ridiculous) but at least they work over cellular networks.

If I were Apple, I'd be pissed at AT&T for not allowing the iPhone to fully utilize the network when the iPhone is locked to AT&T. I wonder if any lawsuits are in the works?

Hmm, you'd think that they would be happy that their users are instead paying $2 a show from the iTunes Store? ;)

I've made this guess before, but I'd guess that 3G network use is highest on the iPhone than any other AT&T handset, and, based on what happened with AT&T 3G network performance this year at the SxSW conference, perhaps AT&T wants to make sure that the most critical use of 3G is reserved for their customers, and is worried that bandwidth-heavy TV watching would cause problems?

Yup, exactly. I don't think you'll see Apple making a stink with AT&T about this - Apple doesn't want people watching TV shows they recorded on their DVR at home. Apple wants people buying their TV/movie content from iTunes.

SlingPlayer for iPhone works perfectly well over wifi... AND is working just as well over 3G. Just install TrickerThreeG and you are good to go.
