Engadget's got the scoop on what appears to be marketing for a new Zune player, called the Zune HD. Which, judging by its name, will feature an HD screen and what looks to be touch controls. We have no specs, or proof that it's even real, but I'm sure we'll find out soon enough. Even if it turns out to be a hoax, I still want it.

I say it's real. Or a mockup of some internal prototypes...but it's definately some official work because the graphics are way too similar to other Zune marketing art. And the device itself looks too cool that I want it to be true...:D

Totally. As has been the case with the past two generations, the marking art usually leaks about a couple weeks before an announcement, meaning we could hopefully see this by the summer!

P.S. I just noticed my last line is almost exactly the same as Gizmodo's headline. Nice :)

Gizmodo has been told that these design concepts were indeed produced for Microsoft

I'd absolutely love to see this. It would keep me from buying an iPod Touch.

That looks really cool, but I already have the 80; hope they refresh the flash players, I could use one for the gym. These pics realllllly make me want one though...

...hope they refresh the flash players...

Hope so too, although its not entirely clear if this would be HDD or Flash based. That said, it would be highly desireable if their "stick" sized devices had the same screen aspect ratio and styling cues. It would be a hit with me at least.

Just curious what you folks make of that d-pad/squircle replacement. I love the styling. Do you think it is a fully functional touch pad similiar to squircle but without the footprint?

I am guessing that it is the equivalent of a home button and that the controls themselves are all touch based or on the sides of the device. I hope there's at least a play/pause & volume control as physical controls.

I think the interface will be similar to this wonderful concept made by xazac87 on deviantART >> http://xazac87.deviantart.com/art/Zune-Slide-Phone-106992400
Minus the slider part, of course. ;)

I sure hope the thing has haptic touch capability and has the squircle on the touchscreen and functions the same way it does now, like in the concept above.

Believe it or not, the mere confirmation that you've been NDA'd is an encouragement to me. At least we know something is out there. :)

Oh yeah - the Zune team is *definitely* in the shop cooking up some magic. :D

Harry Potter magic or "OMG-the-best-gadget-ever!" magic? ;)
