The key benefit these hard drives offer is power-related: they use only 6 watts when in use, 4 watts at idle, and only 0.8 watts at sleep or idle. They achieve this through a variety of technologies, including a variable RPM of 5400 to 7200. Clever stuff! Would anyone like to guess what I'm going to be using them for?</p>

I've got three of those in my WHS box, so I'm going to guess WHS.

Well since you haven't built a new computer in a couple of months, I would think it's a new Home Server or you're upgrading one of your desktops to handle big-time photo/video editing on the box :)

Streaming video server.
Could be for an archive of RAW photos, but smart money says video server is more likely. what with the new flat panel and all...

You're going to have a 4TB drobo drive. Next question please.

your missing one -- to setup a RADE-5 system -- or maybe you'll do mirrored....
but I like uizzah0's idea also (as long as I end up with one or more).

Even better... give away a 4TB drobo drive. ;)

I can't wait until 2TB drives come down to a sensible price. I'm a total disk space junkie.

Backing up your floppy disk collection?

I have 165GB of storage space, and that includes every hard drive, CF card, and SD card I own.

Just added a 750GB External drive because THAT is sufficient room to back up all 3 of our main machines - including photos - so would have to agree with earlier guesses involving VIDEO of some sort....

Hard to imagine any other data that would require that much room.

(Although the Floppy Back Up thought merits some consideration!)

Some very amusing guesses - one of you got it right on the nose, but I won't say who. :D Keep watching the front page...(probably sometime next week)
