I do not apologize for having a device that satisfies my needs as it should. If you're an iPod owner, you should be proud too but don't ever expect me to feel bad when I stand next to you. I probably won't be able to hear you speaking anyway, because I'll be too busy listening to the plethora of podcasts I synced the night before.</em>"</p><p><img src="http://images.thoughtsmedia.com/resizer/thumbs/size/600/zt/auto/1238729093.usr495.jpg" style="border: 1px solid #d2d2bb;" width="500" /></p><p>Marques (<a href="http://social.zune.net/member/tromboneforhire" target="_blank">TromboneForHire</a>) ain't gonna take it anymore. Fed up with the anti-Zune sentiment he seems to encounter regularly, he has penned what might be called the Zuners' Manifesto, a diatribe against the iPod owning masses. And honestly, it's about time. Most of my friends who poked fun at me for owning a Zune two years ago have since gone out and bought one of their own (no, we haven't used the device-to-device sharing feature.) And even in my classes, my Zune ownership has become something of an in-joke (there are three of us proud Zuners in Philosophy 001 serving as the active resistance against the sea of iPod Classics and Touches... our rallying call "Red Zune!" can be heard just about as often as the discussions about Dualism and Descartes, but I digress.) Honestly, I think most people hate the Zune out of ignorance. It doesn't have quite the same ecosystem as Apple's ubiquitous iPod, but feature-for-feature, it blows the competition out of the water. If Microsoft steps up its efforts and truly gets the word out (no device-less <a href="http://zune-arts.net/dogfight" target="_blank">cartoons </a>with irrelvant messages) and delivers a <a href="http://www.zunethoughts.com/news/show/93199/rumor-zune-touch-in-the-works.html" target="_blank">strong competitor</a> to the iPod Touch/iPhone, I think we could be in business. Have you ever felt the scorn of a stranger because of your choice in media player?</p>

Adam, you and Marques totally rock!!
Keep fighting for us proud Zune owners like this!:D

I get really irritated when i see my relatives using ipods since im the lone zuner in my family. Even my one relative who gifted me my zune and who's husband works at Microsoft uses an ipod clasic and that really pisses me off!

Hear hear! I really don't care what anyone else uses but it really drives me nuts when people act like the Zune shouldn't even exist. I bought mine originally because it was the best player out on the market. Nothing has come out to change my opinion of that.

Competition is a good thing. ;)

I ignore it but its still very annoying. I hear it far more than seems at all reasonable :p It's our idiotic society and media in a nutshell. Do I really care what the President and his wife gave the Queen of England, or vice versa? Maybe slightly, but I don't need to see articles on it day after day after day.

In other words, don't expect too much from society. People aren't very smart. They also like to be "in a camp" and jeer at the opposite camp, and that's where the Zune treatment derives from.

that is a real sexy bezel around that screen (not).

everytime I see a flash zune turned off I cringe when it is turned on to reveal that tiny screen surrounded by 3 inches of bezel.

Reminiscent of Palm OS fanboys :p

So do they make fun of the Cowons or the Sansas or the Walkmans and the plethora of other devices out there? Why pick on the Zune?

I'd be happy to give the Zune a try if it worked with Macs. I really do like my iPods, but I'm not inherently adverse to the Zune at all.

I'd bet that if anyone other than Microsoft made the Zune, the reaction would be different.

Pretty much.

I mean, we're talking about something that just sits on your desk and plays music. Microsoft generally actually does do nice hardware and the Zune is no exception there.

So do they make fun of the Cowons or the Sansas or the Walkmans and the plethora of other devices out there? Why pick on the Zune? People certainly have made fun of Sony's MP3 players, especially the earlier units, which were disasters in their way. However, the Zune probably gets the most derision, which is a natural outgrowth of the so-called Apple vs. Microsoft "war".
