Pricey maybe, but less than a comparable HTPC (especially with twin CC compatible tuners) and less than the comparable TiVo with a "lifetime" subscription. What's missing? Well, the real value prop for Moxi used to be the Moxi Mate boxes (much like media center extenders). Without these, I'm afraid that it is not really all that compelling. Especially when you compare it to a TiVo with internet video. I'm going to hope that Moxi brings both of these (the "mate" and a firmware upgrade with internet video), but until then, I'll probably hold off. Too bad, really. I loved the Moxi that I had when I had it through Charter. It has a GREAT UI and mostly worked better than any DVR before or since.

Not true at all. The Tivo HD with twin CC tuners is $300 and lifetime service is $400. That is $100 cheaper than the Moxi and you get the excellent Tivo UI plus all the extra features built-in to Tivo (multimedia from your PC; Netflix, Amazon and soon Blockbuster movie downloads; Youtube support, etc.).

Depends on your definition of comparable. The HD XL is $599. The HD is $299, yes, but has a small drive. To get comparable storage with the plain HD you have to get the TiVo approved expander (at least I think that's the only choice) which bumps up the price to $498. So, that's $100 more with the lifetime sub. With the Moxi you lose some nice stuff, yes, but you do get 1080p vs. 1080i, no ads, and a few other nice additions (not the least of which being their very nice interface).

Like I said, I don't think it's enough of a value prop to outweigh TiVo's benefits, but it is apples-to-apples cheaper (in other words, not "not true at all").

Depends on your definition of comparable.

Indeed, I'm thinking that your definition of comparable is different than mine. Neither Tivo model has the same size drive as the Moxie so there is no apples-to-apples comparison. The Tivo HD has a smaller drive and the Tivo HDXL has a drive that's twice the size. The one with the smaller drive costs less than the Moxie and the one with the larger drive costs more. Your add-on that makes the Tivo HD more expensive than the Moxie also makes it larger. None of this, in any sense, supports a statement that the Moxie costs less than a comparable Tivo. It's just not true... at all. I have no argument with anything else you say.
