Oh yeah, and that little wireless mouse too. The contest is open to anyone in the world, and all you have to do to enter is post a response in our forums telling me what you'd do with this software. Would you install it on your current computer, currently running Windows XP or a lower version of Vista? Would you donate the software to charity? Would you build a new computer and use this OS? Or give the OS away to someone who doesn't yet have Vista? There are no right or wrong answers, I'm just curious to know what you'd do.

The contest is open until Thursday the 5th of March, 2009, at 3pm GMT -7. One entry per person. I'll randomly select one winner and they'll have 72 hours to respond and claim their prize.

UPDATE: The contest is over and the winner is cmchavez. I tried Vista when I bought a new PC just after it came out. Much of my software didn't work. I had trouble with drivers. I returned the machine and bought one that still had XP. Since the various SR's, I would give it another try, although if I were to buy another machine, I'd wait until the next version of Windows....whatever Microsoft is calling it these days. I'm not enthralled with MS's attempts at new operating systems.

Thanks, Jason!

I would use the software on my laptop that is currently running Windows 7; once the beta testing period expires, I'll need to install a fresh OS and this would be a winner!

This would replace a Windows XP version on a Dell that missed the free Vista upgrade.
Then I would volunteer some time with World Vision.

I would put it on my XP computer. It's certified for Vista, but I had driver issues early and so went with XP at the time. Now the drivers are out and I'd like to move it to Vista.

Heya,

I am going to use it with my laptop and upgrading it, and using it with my laser software that runs better on it then windows xp due lack of update of the drivers.
like it crash sometimes and I dont like pirated versions of windows because of their lack of upgrades >_<.

and thats the same for video editing.

My 2.5 year old son has started using and monopolizing the family PC (music, web surfing). I already see the arguing simmering over computer time between him, my wife and the other kids. If I don't buy/build a 2nd PC soon, it's going to get nasty...

Please help me keep the peace at home!

I think I'd upgrade the computer my kids use - they are using XP and have discovered the joys of spyware :-(

But I'd keep the mouse for myself!

Well my roomie and co-developer of our engine can't afford to purchase his own copy of Vista, so I would be extremely grateful if you would help us continue production. Not sure about the diddy mouse though, maybe another competition is in order on my end? :)

Not to mention, this account will go to good use whether I win or not.

My wife is a graphic designer and for the last 2 years i've had to endure Mac OS one after the next. Now leopard isn't too bad, but I've always been a windows man.

If i won this copy of vista red, i'd put it on the computer i'm going to build bit by bit to have at home running windows next to the mac.

I reckon that for an awesome system, it'd be awesome to have a nice OS to go along with it. That way my wife can also break out of that mac bubble she lives in and finally learn some windows.

Tpavra
02-25-2009, 03:34 PM
What I would do with it, is upgrade my desktop from Home Premium to Ultimate, and then use my current Home Premium license to upgrade my laptop from Home Basic to Home Premium. :)

I would most likely sell it or give it away as a gift.
I have an HPdv6000 and it's running perfectly fine on Home Premium and I've been tweaking it for over a year.
Now that it finally runs how I want it to, I don't want to do it all over again with a prettier version.

If I did sell it though, it would be for cheap to someone who needs it.

I'd personally rather just wait until Windows 7 to change my OS.
Thanks though, I like staying up to date with your videos on Youtube.

I'm getting ready to build a new machine so this would probably live there. Alternatively, I could donate it to our church - we have some machines still running Windows 2000 because we haven't bothered to update them. Be a good use of an upgrade/new machine OS there. Either way, I'll probably need to be on Vista prior to Windows 7 and I'd definitely prefer to be using that once it's released. :)

If I got to win windows vista ultimate red I would upgrade my sisters xp computer. I feel bad for her and for the rest of my family for the recent events that has occurred. My father recently passed away so It's up to me to try to be the man of the house and help provide for my family and with this pc upgrade, it will show that I do care enough to do something for my family. We don't have much, but we do have each other and our small Barberton, Ohio home. This vista upgrade wont feed my family, or help with the bills thats pilleling up, but it will give us all hope and show that I can provide for my family

I have been running a drive in the small town of El Dorado, Arkansas for the past few months. The purpose of this drive is to recycle old computers/new computers so that the environment remains relatively unscathed by electronics. I have been fortunate enough to be given many newer computers for the drive. Another side objective I had besides getting rid of e-waste is to build a dream computer for a local homeless shelter, and for the orphan center. I have already built the one for the orphans with an Q9650 Intel Quad Core processor with Window Vista Ultimate 64-bit. Believe it or not...I got all the materials for this computer from doners! I couldn't believe what people were going to give away or throw out! I now have all the things I need for the Q9550 Quad I am building for the homeless shelter. All I need now is to have an operating system. I planned on not having to spend any money on this project. That's why it would be great to receive this gift. I got the other OS for the orphans from it being donated from Microsoft themselves after me sending them my story. I am a teenager trying to make a difference and this would help me along the way. I love computers and I want everybody to benefit from them, even the ones who can't afford it. You may also be asking why I build these "overpowered" computers for people who don't "need" them. I do it because a lot of people share this computer, and this may be the one thing that they have (the powerful computer) that most other people don't. Who knows I may become "that teenager" who changed their lives forever. You never know what opportunities this will open for them. If anybody on the forums would like to donate, please contact me at [email protected]

Hello.

As i'm on the course of building a new gaming and high end computer on a tight budget the new OS would be great as i haven't ordered OS yet, i personally haven't tried vista before though i've made some research and Ultimate seems to be the best one after all it supports more than 3gb of ram, hehe well i'm hoping to finish my PC latest in 2 weeks and if the light of luck turns on over my head then new OS would be great bond.:D

I have been eyeing this ever since i got my new laptop. it's a gateway t-1631 but it comes with vista home premium. so much nicer it would be to have ultimate. especially ultimate red. i have done some fake trickouts to my system to make it look like product red but there is still the dead giveaway that i have home premium. plus it would be nice to have all the extra features like data encryption and dreamscene. i just don't have 220 dollars to spend on it because both of my jobs cut on hours severely. so if i dont win this i have to keep using my fake less functional copy of Windows vista.

As an aspiring Artist/Graphic Designer, I'd be able to run more intensive graphic programs. I would create tons of posters, banners, flyers, and other forms of advertisements to promote events that benefit not only my community but hopefully further down the road, humanity as a well. I'd also be able to get the wheels rolling of my plan to open a design firm that promotes charitable events that Product(RED) and ONE has to offer. With this version of Vista I can also rest assured that some profit did get to the Product(RED) foundation and was not entirely pocketed by Microsoft. Regardless, if I don't win this I will buy it anyways. But winning this sure would be lots of help. Here goes nothing!

Of course, I'll also need a larger hard drive, and a new video card...

I am Michael Vens. and I would use this version of Vista for further development and/or testing purposes. I am a software/graphic designer and a low level programmer in my spare time. I am currently attending college in NC for a Masters Degree; and this package would be most useful for presenting in class for demonstrations and tutourials for beginners in the field. If I am chosen then I greatly appreciate the opportunity and I promise you it will go to much good use.

I'd put it on the machine I'm building for my girlfriend right now. I've been saving up for about a year for this PC (very strapped for cash myself), but seeing as how shes running a very old and slow rig, I want to give her the right equipment for her to be able to practice graphic editing and design. She is already an amazing artist on paper and canvas, but she wants to take it further to her computer. Hopefully, this OS and the extras that (Product)Red edition has will help her do just that.

I would upgrade my TouchSmart PC from Vista Home Premium so that I can access my system remotely via my Windows Home Server. Home Premium doesn't support that feature whereas Ultimate does.

I would pass the mouse along to a friend as I already have several mice I like to use.

I would use it on my primary machine replacing XP, and I would really enjoy playing with wpf on a system, that can run it without any glitches by default. XP unfortunately can't run wpf so well.... :(

One of my friend who is having a very deep knowledge in windows internals, and as a hobby, he always do some research by comparing the latest windows operating systems released recently. He is having a DELL laptop and having open source LINUX now.

I will be giving this product to him for his research activities.

And the mouse will be for me :-)

Thanks.

I don't know what i'd do with my copy. There are so many options. Put it on my notebook and get rid of Vista, or maybe put it on the desktop with XP already on it, but lower end. Choices, choices.

I'm still on XP because my first impression of Vista about a year and half ago wasn't so good. So, with this, I'd give Vista another go. :)

Sorry for the delay, bad timing on my part. The winner is...

cmchavez

He's been contacted via private message. He has 72 hours to claim his prize or I'll re-draw for another winner.

Thanks to everyone for entering the contest!

I would use the software on my laptop that is currently running Windows 7; once the beta testing period expires, I'll need to install a fresh OS and this would be a winner!

That was his post.
Was it because of Iron Man? ;)

To everyone involved in this post:

Now! This is just my observation, but I think the contest might deserve a "re-draw" due to the 72 hour rule set by Jason was not met by "cmchavez" according to the time stamps on the cooresponding message posts!!

>>if i am wrong then i strongly apologize! This is NOT meant to offend anyone! =)<<

OK! TAKE A LOOK:

on 3-5-2009 @ 10:53pm
Jason posts that the contest is over and that he is randomly selecting a winner at this time and to please stand by! now! does the 72hour window begin here?

on 3-8-2009 @ 6:57pm
Jason posts that "cmchavez" was randomly selected to win the contest and that he was notified via private message and had 72 hours to respond or he will "re-draw" another winner. or is this when the 72hour window begins?

on 3-11-2009 @ 8:50pm
cmchavez posts that he basically "just made it" to claim the winning prize. Now! I personally have nothing against any of this. I would just like to know if I am missing something here or if I am not the only one who notices that "cmchavez" did not make the 72 hour window time frame.......according to the time stamps on the posts; he did not win actually!

....just look at the time stamps!
- If Jason set the 72 hour mark at his initial 3/5/09 @ 10:53pm post, then cmchavez did not make it in time

- If Jason set the 72 hour mark at his 3/8/09 @ 6:57 post, then cmchavez barely missed the mark by at least an hour or two; which means he still did not win

what do all of you think?

hahaha!!!!!!!

who? me? ...... I no whine!!

hey Jason! what are your thoughts on Windows 7? the new taskbar is a nice addition but the OS could use a little more I think. so far it reminds me of an updated version of XP; which may be great for users who do not like Vista. do you agree?

Windows Vista was a radical departure from Windows XP - that's why so many things broke. Windows 7 is a polished version of Windows Vista - the core is the same as Vista, though improved, so they spent all their time on improving the user experience, and it really shows. I'm really excited for Windows 7 - it's going to be a *great* operating system.

.... I would have to agree! Even though it's in Beta stage, it runs smoother and faster in VMware Fusion than Vista. I personally can do with/without the AeroGlass effect. People should consider the fact that Windows 7 and Vista run much smoother when the AeroGlass effect is disabled (even though I know it's very much candy to the eye!)
