The UK is the latest country to be added to the list of countries Vopium is offering its mobile VOIP calls and text message service.
By installing Vopium for free onto their mobile handset, UK callers can make calls and send SMS to more than 200 countries across the world.
With 50,000 users mostly in Scandinavia, Vopium first launched in Denmark in 2007 and is now offering its services in 16 european countries as well as Canada, USA, Australia
Vopium is a free software program that uses mobile VoIP and Wi-Fi. The software is available for 500 handsets including Java, Symbian, and MS Windows. An Apple version is in the pipeline and versions for Android and Palm are being considered.
The software integrates directly with the address book on the phone, automatically re-routing all international calls via the least expensive method available. In addition to heavily discounted international calls, Vopium users can also slash the costs of sending text messages abroad as each message costs 9p. Calls to USA to Mobiles and Landlines is 2p/min and to India 5p. Calls to other Vopium users through wi-fi is free.
To get started, mobile subscribers can either visit the vopium.com or send a text message with “Get” to 07781480717. Once registered, all new users receive 30 free minutes of talk time and 100 free SMS.
