Digital Home Thoughts is here to help! HP has given us three of these very feminine Vivienne Tam wireless optical mice to give away. With Valentine's Day being so close, I figured it was time for a giveaway! I won't be able to ship them to the winners in time for the 14th, but you can print out the above photo and tell that special someone that they won one!

OK, here's the contest: post a reply telling me how your met your wife/girlfriend/significant other. So as not to exclude the single people out there (believe me, I remember what it was like), if you'd like to give this mouse to a close friend, go ahead and tell me how you met them. And hey, you never know what kind of sparks a fashionable mouse might create! The contest will close Friday night, around 10pm (GMT -7), and the three winners (chosen at random from among all posted entries) will each receive one mouse each.

UPDATE:Thanks for all the great stories everyone - I enjoyed reading them. And thanks for entering the contest! The three winners are: Dyvim, lynnroth, and srsabu. Each winner has been contacted via private message and they have 7 days to claim their prize. Have a very happy Valentine's Day, one and all!

I'll start and tell you how I met my husband. I was divorced with two small boys and my friend kept pushing me to date this "great" guy her husband worked with. I kept fending her off saying I wasn't ready. One night, she invited my sons and I over for dinner. Never one to turn down a meal, I accepted. She didn't tell me but she had invited the "great" guy over, too.

She wasn't lying. He really was great. Handsome and funny and he read a story to one of my sons that night without being asked. Almost too good to be true. I was struck mute and said barely two words that night even though I kept saying to myself "Talk dummy, say SOMETHING". I barely touched my dinner because I was worried I'd either choke to death or spill it all over me, thereby confirming I was an idiot and not worth dating.

As we were leaving for the evening the only thing I could mutter was "Goodnight, it was nice meeting you" then he turned to go to his car. I was brushing the snow off mine and kicking myself for not talking the whole evening, when he came back. He said he wasn't sure if I'd be interested, but would I like to go have dinner with him some night? I almost killed myself getting to my purse to give him my phone number. Darn ice on the driveway.

Fast forward, 17 years later. We're still happily married with four children between us. He really is a great guy although his one flaw is he's a really bad gift giver. Hence, why I'm here attempting to win my own beautiful Valentine's Day gift. I will do the required "oooh" and "aaah" when he hands me that bouquet of flowers all the while wishing it was the peonies that grace the Vivienne Tam mouse.

I would give to my mum. She has always helped me out during the years and have always stood by me. I remember those days when she used to help me with my schoolwork. She is a close a person to me and if I win one of these mouses I would give it to her:-)

I met my wife at a programming competition during college. Along the trip there and back, we got to know each other and quickly fell in love.

I can only assume that I met my wife at church, since we grew up going to the same one and she is older than I am.

My wife and I met at work. This was before the days of "no pens in the company ink". We dated for 2 years and were married in 1973, giving us 35 years together so far. I think it's going to work out. As I tell others, "31 wonderful years of marriage, which ain't bad out of 35!"

I met her at a church retreat. She was sitting across the room and I thought she was cute so I went and sat by her. By the end of the weekend we had our first date set up. That was over 8 years ago. Time sure goes fast.

I met my wife at our church, but I didn't really get to know her until her Dad was my supervisor for a summer internship. I started helping him with some home remodeling projects as a way to learn some basic home repair skills, and she and I ended up spending a lot of evenings sitting on their porch swing, talking. We kept in touch over the years, and 8 years later we ended up together.

We worked together. He would come in the office and talk to me and soon we were doing the "moonlight" banter back and forth. I speak Spanish and one day we were talking and he said he wanted to learn Spanish. SO after work, I started tutoring him. In lieu of pay, he took me out to dinner or we would study over dinner. In those months we became very good platonic friends. THen one day we realized that we had also fallen in love. 2 months later I moved in and now 15 years later we are still going strong. Gracias a dios!

We met at church through a mutual friend.
Our mutual friend would organize all sorts of activities, and I would definitely go if Julie was going to be there. After about a year of that we finally went out on our first date.

I met my wife in the hallway of the UC Davis Psychology building during my sophomore year there. She was sitting on the floor, stressed out over getting into classes that she needed. While walking by her, I stopped and asked her if she needed any help (I was also a resident advisor for one of the college dorms) and helped her make sense of the course listings in the student catalog. A couple of days later, she saw me in a psych class we had both enrolled in and we became friends first, then started dating about 4 months later. :)

I met my wife while I was a third year medical student on my Obstetrics rotation. She was the very friendly and pretty unit clerk working casual on the weekend.

I met my girlfriend (soon to be fiancée - I'm sure she has no idea this site exists, so the surprise will still be safe) in 1999 at the university where we both now work. I had graduated and took a job in the office where she was still a student worker. She was in a relationship at the time and I never really thought about asking her out. When she finally graduated a few years later she moved back home and was working for about a year but we kept in touch and I let her know of a job opening in my office, which she interviewed for but did not get. Well, another office actually saw her resume and asked her in for another interview a few months later and she got that job. We started to run into one another every once in a while during our lunches and soon started going to office outings together and eventually it all led up to where we are now.
Now, in two months I'm surprising her with a trip to Chicago for her birthday (I've secretly cleared it with her boss already so I can really surprise her a few days before we leave). Plus, I'm taking a ring along and have 2 or 3 possible proposition spots planned depending on weather and time of day, etc. (I'm a bit of a nerd when it comes to planning).
Anyway, thanks for the mouse giveaway!

I met my wife sailing -- she met a friend of mine while bar hopping with her sister. He invited them sailing, and took them from the columbia river up past the first dam on the Snake River where I had my boat. We sailed togeather all day, people switching boats, swimming. Topped it off by relaxing in my hot tub that evening - sipping wine.

I met my husband a few months after my divorce was finalized. I was a young mom of 3, with the youngest being twin infants. I was pretty much jaded about relationships but decided to put an ad up on a very popular online matchmaking service. I lived in NY at the time but had recently vacationed with some girlfriends in Virginia Beach, VA. Dave had answered my ad and indicated that he lived in Virginia Beach but was a NY native. He was totally not my type, but I answered his ad because I really enjoyed Virginia. We would chat online and the phone, and met in person after 2 months. During our first date (movie & dinner) I kept thinking OMG! He is soooo not my type. However, by the end of the night I was totally smitten (no hanky panky involved) because we had alot of common interests and I enjoyed talking to him! We've been married for 7 years now and I am very glad that I didn't pass him over. He is the best husband, father and the bestest friend I could ever ask for!:p

I met my wife in the dorms in college. She lived in the room right above mine and was practicing her tap dancing on the tile floor. I was trying to study at the time and found this a little annoying so up I trudged to figure out what the heck all the racket was. My anger diminished quickly when I found the source and we went on our first date a week later.
