I recently reviewed the TSAT-2000s from The Speaker Company. I really liked them and one of the few negatives I came up with was that they did not offer a subwoofer as part of their package even though it was really required to fully enjoy the speakers. Shortly after my review, they added 2 subwoofers to their lineup and I recently purchased a full set of the speakers I reviewed along with the ASW-10 subwoofer, so thought I would relay my thoughts on the subwoofer.

After the break, get my take on this addition to the package. <MORE />

The subwoofer is built from high-density MDF and has a black ash veneer finish. As you may recall, the TSAT-2000's had a piano black glossy finish, so while they don't match, I prefer this flatter finish since it will be sitting on the floor and be more of a dust and smudge magnet. The unit is 14 3/8 inches square by 15 1/2 inches tall and sits on four large rubberized feet.

Figure 1: Front of Unit

The rear of the unit features a detachable power cord, a set of Line In and Hi Level In jacks, power switch, phase adjustment switch, and knobs for volume and frequency.

Figure 2: Rear of Unit

The construction of the unit is rock solid and all the switches and knobs have a high quality feel. Like I said in my original review, I'm not an audiophile, so the technical specifications don't mean a whole lot to me. But for those who are interested, this sub features a 10 inch High Excursion Driver with a 30 ounce ferrite magnet. The cabinet is 5/8 inch thick MDF. The unit uses a BASH® amplifier, has a 28-120 Hz frequency response, and 100 watts RMS (400 watts peak) of power. All I really cared about was how it sounded. Here I was not disappointed. Basically it provided all the boom I wanted and none of the boom I didn't want. I cranked the bass far past anything I would ever use and got nothing but rock solid boom. When adjusted to more reasonable levels, it provided an excellent complement to the TSAT-2000's.

I'm very pleased with the ASW-10. It combined perfectly with the TSAT-2000's and allowed me to drastically reduce the footprint of speakers in my living room without sacrificing quality sound. You can pick up the ASW-10 directly from The Speaker Company for $149.97, including free shipping and free return shipping if you are not satisfied.

Chris Gohlke is a Contributing Editor for Digital Home Thoughts. Looks like a good product, especially for the price!
